Abstract

Anesthetic management of patients with congenital heart disease presenting for noncardiac surgery is daunting and becoming more common. Perioperative management and risk stratification of these complicated patients is a necessary skill of all pediatric anesthesiologists. This tutorial utilizes a physiologic approach to these patients, reviews the data available about risk stratification, and emphasizes red flags. The tutorial ends with practice scenarios to solidify learning.
