Abstract

Diagnosis is based on clinical suspicion and laboratory tests (HIT positive antibodies alone do not confirm HIT)
Check your pretest probability (the 4 ‘T’s)
Stop all heparin
Commence alternate anticoagulation
Antibodies tend to disappear after 6 months
