Prof. Nabil M. Elkassabany, MD MSCE MBA
John C. Rowlingson Professor of Anesthesiology and Vice Chair of Clinical Operations, University of Virginia
Prof. Elkassabany leads clinical operations in the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Virginia, where he also serves as Medical Director of the Perioperative Service and of the Main Operating Rooms. He joined UVA in 2022 after fourteen years at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine.
His research addresses regional anaesthesia and acute pain medicine, particularly the effect of regional techniques on patient-reported outcomes after joint arthroplasty and orthopaedic trauma surgery, alongside work on obstructive sleep apnoea and operating room efficiency.
He brings extensive editorial experience to the journal, having served as Associate Editor of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine and of Pain Medicine, co-editor of several special issues of Anesthesiology Clinics, and editor of the ASRA newsletter.
