Abstract

Well developed, high-income countries enjoy an abundance of resources which enhance patient safety in the perioperative setting. Much of this results from the longstanding progress of clinical research that endeavors to continually improve patient outcomes. A wholly different scenario exists in low-income countries where this luxury is yet to be realized. A clinical research report by Bedwell et al uses a research priority-setting process with 4 rounds to define the top 10 perioperative nursing research aims across 12 countries in Africa. Seventeen perioperative nurses participated and the top 10 research priorities were identified through a Delphi technique. These are illustrated in the above infographic. These research needs require coordination to create forward momentum and positive change in perioperative outcomes. The reader is strongly encouraged to review the cited article and editorial for an in-depth understanding of the concepts summarized in this infographic.
